About Me

Senior Consultant Vascular & Interventional Radiologist

I am Dr. Suresh Babu, a Senior Consultant Interventional Radiologist at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital (KTPH), Singapore. Since joining KTPH in 2011, I have dedicated over a decade to developing and enhancing our Interventional Radiology (IR) services, specialising in minimally invasive procedures. My expertise covers a wide range of areas, including Vascular Interventions, Neuro Interventional Radiology, Interventional Oncology, and non-vascular procedures, all aimed at achieving safe, precise, and effective outcomes for my patients.

I was promoted to Senior Consultant in 2015 and led the IR services at KTPH as the Specialty Lead from 2014 to 2020. My focus is on offering advanced, image-guided treatments, such as Tumour Ablation, Kyphoplasty, Carotid Artery Stenting, Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM) Treatments, Neurosurgical Interventions, and Trauma Embolisation. I leverage the latest imaging technology to provide patients with minimally invasive techniques, reducing recovery times and improving overall results.

My training includes comprehensive programmes in Radiology and Interventional Radiology in the UK and Canada, equipping me with the skills to manage even the most complex procedures. With international experience as an interventional radiologist in Birmingham and Plymouth, UK, I introduced several advanced IR techniques upon joining KTPH. My commitment to safety and quality is reflected in the consistently positive departmental audits of my clinical outcomes.

I believe in a patient-centred care approach, running an Interventional Radiology Clinic every Monday afternoon. I work closely with various medical specialities to ensure coordinated care, offering consultations that help patients understand their procedures, the benefits of minimally invasive techniques, and their personalised care plans.

In addition to my clinical work, I am active in academia. In 2022, I published Interventional Radiology in Palliative Care and introduced PR-IR (Pain Relief in Interventional Radiology), which was endorsed by the Royal College of Radiologists. I also serve as an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and hold the position of Deputy Editor for Clinical Radiology, a journal by the Royal College of Radiologists.

I hold an MBBS from the University of Madras, DMRD from the University of Liverpool, FRCP from the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, FRCR from the Royal College of Radiologists (London), FCIRSE (Fellow of the Cardiovascular Interventional Radiology Society of Europe), EBIR (European Board of Interventional Radiology), and an MBA from the University of Birmingham, UK.

Beyond my clinical duties, I have worked with the Care Quality Commission in the UK to inspect hospitals and served on committees for the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) and the British Society of Interventional Radiology (BSIR). I have also held leadership roles, including Deputy Divisional Director, demonstrating my commitment to excellence in the field of Interventional Radiology.
